When Plungie was named the exclusive pool supplier of The Block 2023, we knew it would be a match made in renovation heaven. We’ve had the pleasure of working with Block contestants in the past, so we knew the ease and speed of our pre-cast pools would help bring the backyard designs to life in a very short timeframe.
Thanks to our off-site production process, every Plungie arrived at The Block ready to be craned into place. Our ‘plug and play’ solution meant that each pool was up and running in a matter of hours. Overall, a Plungie can be installed over 74% faster than a traditional concrete pool. The efficiencies don’t stop there — we were able to install multiple Plungies at The Block in one day, with the same crane.
The Block 2023 has taken Backyard Week to another level and truly shown the versatility of our four pool models. It’s easy to see how our pre-cast pools offer the best of both worlds with consistent quality and endless design options. Let’s explore The Block backyards and discover how each of the contestants created a unique pool and landscape design.
House 1: Kyle and Leslie
Kyle and Leslie have created the entertainer’s dream with their Plungie Arena in Mediterranean Blue. The round pool shape is the hero of this backyard, having been echoed in the stepping stones, staircase and rain shower head.
Kyle and Leslie chose above-ground installation, which allowed them to create levels with the pool, deck, surrounding shrubbery and stepping stones. These elements added depth to the space but also served functional purposes — the deck offer plenty of poolside lounging space, and the stepping stones lead right to the pool’s edge to provide easy access.
With a custom-tiled exterior and natural coping tile, Kylie and Leslie were able to carry the materials used in the home and outdoor area through to the pool. The finished space provides a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
House 2: Leah and Ash
Although Leah and Ash also chose a Plungie Arena in Mediterranean Blue, their backyard design was completely unique to their home.
The Arena was an obvious choice for House 2, as the round shape complemented the curves in the home’s facade, garden beds, and firepit area. Leah and Ash leant into the pool’s shape, with a feature staircase that wraps around the pool’s exterior.
A custom mosaic tile exterior enhances this architectural feature, with a touch of shimmer that picks up the sunlight. Thanks to Plungie’s waterline tile provision, Leah and Ash were able to create the illusion of a fully tiled pool, with all the benefits of an ecoFinish interior.

House 3: Kristy and Brett
Kristy and Brett’s Plungie Max is the perfect example of why you don’t need to sacrifice all of your usable yard space to enjoy a pool. Despite being our largest model (and the largest monolithic pre-cast pool in the world), the Plungie Max left plenty of space for a lawn and firepit area.
The pool takes centre stage in the couple’s back yard, with a natural stone coping tile that flows into a poolside lounge space. It’s the perfect spot to relax while your loved ones swim or lounge on the Max’s generous bench space. The Blue Lagoon ecoFinish interior provides a great contrast to the orange and red tones in the home’s raw brick exterior.
By finishing the pool area with a glass pool fence, Kristy and Brett have created an open-plan outdoor living space that everyone can enjoy.
House 4: Steph and Gian
Plungie provided the perfect solution for Steph and Gian’s difficult site, as our pools can be installed in-ground, above-ground and everywhere in between. Tree roots in the backyard prevented excavation, so the couple chose to install their Plungie Original above ground.
Steph and Gian kept the colour palette neutral, with a natural pool coping tile, glass pool fence and a Kona Coast ecoFinish interior.
The couple integrated natural materials throughout the space, including the timber pool deck and black cladding on the pool’s exterior. The contrasting light and dark wood and surrounding bamboo aligned with Steph and Gian’s Japandi style — the perfect mix of Japanese and Scandinavian design. Adding a private sauna next to the Plungie completed the backyard’s transformation into a wellness hub.
House 5: Eliza and Liberty
Eliza and Liberty’s Plungie Original is the heart of their backyard, with outdoor living zones surrounding the pool on all sides. Large glass doors connect the indoor and outdoor living spaces, creating clear sightlines out to the pool. So, even if you’re not swimming at House 5, you’ll certainly be thinking about it.
The sisters chose a grey pool coping tile to complement the raw concrete patio in the outdoor living and dining space. We’re a little biased when it comes to concrete, but we love the way the grey and white tones of the patio pair with the Kona Coast pool interior.
Although each house started with a pre-cast concrete pool, the finished backyards could not have been more unique. Plungie’s versatility allowed the contestants to choose their model, installation method, interior finish, exterior finish, surrounding tiles and decking.
And, that’s just what you can see on the outside — we also offer a wide range of equipment and add-ons and modifications to ensure you dive into pool perfection.
